Ferrisburgh Fire District No. 1

Ferrisburgh Fire District No. 1 (FFD #1) is an independent municipality, by statute, that owns a system of water transmission pipelines within the Town of Ferrisburgh. FFD #1 was formed in August 15, 1989 in order to bring water from Vergennes into the Town of Ferrisburgh. FFD #1 is governed by a Prudential Committee, which has an annual meeting the second Tuesday in October, and which meets as needed to transact business. Currently FFD #1 has 107 members. A map of the boundaries of the Fire District is on file in the Ferrisburgh Town Clerks Office.

Fees

The membership fees are $2,500 per hookup for new residential properties, and $5,000 for commercial or farm hook-ups. After joining, membership in the Fire District continues with the property in perpetuity. In addition to the to the membership fee, an annual fee of $220 for repair and maintenance will be charged. This is a reduction from the $240/year repair and maintenance fees of previous years. Members are given the option to pay $55 quarterly, $110 semi-annually, or $220 annually. Members will need to sign up for automatic payments to be taken out of your bank account. When a property is sold, membership is transferred to the new property owner.

Fees for the Fire District should not be confused with membership and fees in Vergennes-Panton Water District. The saying goes, FFD #1 owns the waterlines, and Vergennes-Panton owns the water. So Fire District members in Ferrisburgh will receive two bills, one from each entity.
